Using less energy to reduce demand and waste, increasing energy efficiency and monitoring progress, and getting the cheapest renewable source of energy are some of the key ways farmers can forge a sustainable future.
That was one of the key messages to emerge from a Farming Sustainably for Future Generations field day on Thursday December 9 at the Doolan family farm, 40 Borthwick’s Rd, Brucknell.
“The question you have to ask is ‘can we do it better and achieve the same outcomes with less’,” energy consultant Gabriel Hakim told the well-attended field day.
Topics covered included multi species crops and soil health, VSDs and vacuum pumps, commercial CO2 heat pump, chiller, plate cooler and underground water tank, solar power and light upgrades and the monitoring system.
DemoDAIRY Foundation was one of the partners for this event and will continue to support events and projects that lead to positive outcomes for the future of farming in our region.
