A scholarship can be a life-changing opportunity for a student, providing them with not only financial security, but also allowing them to dedicate more time to their studies and achieve their goals.
Your generosity is essential in our mission to provide access to all, unlocking the potential of students who may have otherwise been unable to attend university. A donor-funded scholarship is a motivational boost for students, whether they strive to make a difference in industry, undertake pioneering research or dedicate their talents to serving the community.
Through your inspiring gift, you are setting students on a pathway to success at university and beyond.
We are delighted to introduce the successful recipient of the DemoDAIRY Foundation Scholarship for 2019.
Caleb Templeton
Bachelor of Commerce, Deakin University Warrnambool
My name is Caleb, I’m 20 years old and live in Warrnambool with my mum and six siblings. I love staying active by playing football at a local club at Russell’s Creek and playing golf occasionally.
Being able to study in my home town of Warrnambool was a big motivator for me to study at Deakin. I believe that there are many benefits to studying Accounting and Agribusiness in this area, too. I saw opportunity for employment in the Accounting industry and was advised by past graduates of the course and career counsellors from my high school at Emmanuel College. Once my studies began in 2018, I really enjoyed the challenges of my education and the rewards of receiving great feedback only motivated me more.
When Deakin University decided to start up an Agribusiness major, I was immediately interested. With our region in south-west Victoria heavily involved in the Agribusiness industry, I saw it as a great opportunity to learn and specialise in something close to home. Both sides of my family have been involved in farming and the dairy industry so I understood the hard work and commitment required. I believe it is important to appreciate the work they do for the rest of the state and country.
I am currently completing a Chef’s apprenticeship at The Flying Horse, where I have been employed for the last three years, and an internship with McLaren Hunt Financial Group. This position will help further my studies and provide me with hands-on experience when visiting farms associated with the firm.
My future plans are to complete my degree and my apprenticeship and gain employment either locally or interstate. I believe the skills I will aquire during this time will be very valuable to myself and those that I work closely with. I also want to be happy!
I would like to thank you for awarding this scholarship to me. The positive impact that donors, including the DemoDAIRY Foundation, have on students like myself is enormous. Knowing that there are people and organisations out there that care about the education and development of younger adults is very reassuring.
I have been given the confidence to complete my studies without worrying about the financial side of things, which is something most students are very anxious about. On behalf of all students at Deakin University, thank you for your contribution and support.
