Ebony Woods is moving straight from study to work.
Ebony, from Princetown, was a 2025 Powell Legacy Fund (PLF) scholarship recipient, funded by DemoDAIRY Foundation.
Now in the final year of her Bachelor of Agriculture at The University of Melbourne, Ebony has already gained a graduate position within research and extension in a local farming systems group.
During her study, Ebony has focused heavily on subjects within her major of plant and soil science, completing in-depth soil assessments, studied plant pathology and tied this all together with an agronomy subject.
Alongside these subjects specific to her major, she has undertaken two agricultural economics subjects, a capstone professional practice subject and completed a summer internship at a Cooriemungle dairy farm. “I was able to learn a lot about the inner workings of a dairy farm, from extremely passionate farmers,” she said.
Ebony said the scholarship support was instrumental in her success. “Thank you to the entire DDF team for giving me this opportunity,” she said. “With the funds I received I was able to move to the Dookie campus and study within a working farm. This experience has truly enriched my university learnings.”
“Now I’m really excited to begin my new position.”
DemoDAIRY Foundation will wind up in 2027. It is no longer offering scholarships but will consider study tour grants for farmer groups or individuals to learn about dairying and farm business management in other areas.
