South west Victorian farmers have learnt how they can win the war on talent at a workshop funded by the DemoDAIRY Foundation.
Best-selling author, keynote speaker and international business consultant Mandy Johnson presented the workshop organised by West Vic Dairy on June 16.
With competition for quality employees across all industries as fierce as ever, the session aimed to provide dairy farmers with practical tools and techniques to attract the best people, then build a high-performance workplace that they don’t want to leave.
Mandy provided an overview of what’s happening in the labour market, the hidden motivators that attract the best employees, that aren’t just money, how to write compelling hiring ads, how to screen out ‘bad attitude’ applicants so farmers are not continually dealing with staff turnover, mental health issues, conflict and HR crises, how to performance manage so they never have to sack anyone, or deal with Fair Work commissions and some practical and unconventional steps to build a remarkable workplace of motivated employees who never want to leave.
