Background
The DemoDAIRY Foundation (DDF) school scholarships are open to students who plan to proceed with vocational or higher education courses next year which are related to the dairy industry (both farming or in the important supporting service industries) or other livestock industries. Students should be living in and studying at secondary schools in the Shires of Colac – Otway, Corangamite, Moyne and Glenelg plus the City of Warrnambool
The Powell Legacy Fund (PLF) which honours the memory of the late Ross Powell and Andrew Powell of Timboon and their passion for volunteering, education and agriculture has now closed for new applications.
This scholarship program will acknowledge and reward the efforts of students in Year 12 or who will be leaving after Year 11.
Education Activities
- Scholarship for an individual for up to three years to financially assist their post-secondary education e.g. TAFE, diplomas, traineeship or apprenticeship
- Attendance at a conference, workshop, seminar, training program that results in a recognized accreditation or qualification
- Support the purchase of resources required to develop skills e.g. books, IT resources
Funds Available
Up to $5,000 annually for up to three years will be granted to up to five eligible individual school leavers across the region pursuing post-secondary education. It is anticipated that candidates who demonstrate significant financial hardship will be favored.
The recipient will not receive the scholarship funds in cash, but would present invoices/accounts to be paid from the fund up to $5,000 per year. Continued scholarship funding is dependent on successful passing all course subjects and milestones.
Scholarships will be awarded at the commencement of study courses in each new study year, however applications for other grants may be considered at any time.
Selection Criteria
The focus is on supporting young people as they transition from secondary school to post-secondary education. Plans to work in the dairy industry (both farming or in the important supporting service industries) or other livestock / agricultural industries will be seen as a major advantage in being awarded a scholarship.
Grant and scholarship applicants will increase their likelihood of being successful if they can demonstrate contributions to school and other community sports and volunteer activities plus involvement in other activities outside school.High academic performance is not the most important criteria. These criteria will be used by the DDF selection panel to make recommendations on the annual award winners
Selection and Review
Processes
Applications can be made via the DemoDAIRY website (www.demodairy.com.au) by the 30th of November each year. The selection process will involve a written application and, possibly, formal interview.
Each successful applicant may be asked to be the subject of media releases or testimonial on the DDF website or to be posted on associated social media and web pages before, during or after the DDF funded activity.
